When a friend asked Laura Hartrich how she could try out quilting — without spending too much money — Laura couldn’t wait to share her advice. Check out this cute slideshow that she prepared. And then send it to all of your friends! Maybe, just maybe, you’ll convert a friend or two to start quilting yourself!

I learned to quilt by following a free quiltalong on Elizabeth Hartman’s blog. That particular quilt is no longer on her site but Google reveals lots of new ones. This can be particularly helpful when you’re starting out because it breaks down the process into small manageable chunks, and you learn a new skill with each step.
That’s a great point, Tina! There is so much to learn by joining a quilt-along. Not only do you learn from the designer hosting the quilt along, but you learn from the other members sewing along, too!
