This is a reproduction of a historic sampler from the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The original dates from about 1785, and features a pastoral scene of the English countryside. The design is printed on fine buttermilk color Iriah linen, and is worked in a variety of stitches (this is not counted cross stitch).  Finished size is 16-1/2 x 13.  The verse reads: In conversation speak with ease; shun barbarous words as rocks in seas.  Lovely colors, and very high quality materials.  Includes the printed linen fabric, DMC cotton floss, and complete instructions.   Kit from The Scarlet Letter, 1989. This gorgeous project is suited for someone who is comfortable working in satin stitch, surface satin stitch, stem stitch, chain stitch, french knots, and outline stitch.  Instructions include diagrams of how to work all of the stitches.
